Blog Connections
I had an interesting experience the other day when another Lynne Martin contacted me out of the blue to say "hello." Although she didn't say how she found Riddle Lake, my guess is she was doing a bit of ego surfing and stumbled upon my site.
Interestingly, she is also a designer (of the interior kind) and used to live in Pennsylvania. Small world.
What struck me most about this brief e-mail exchange is how easy it is for contacts to be made over the Web and what the implications of that are for our society. We are all empowered with instant access to vast amounts of highly specific information. I don't think anyone has thought through exactly the ramifications of all of this.
I was just discussing this with my Uncle last night as it relates to flash mobs. Although basically silly, the cool thing about flash mobs is the power of modern communication and its ability to instantly communicate/organize a group of people and call them to specific action. I often wonder why flash mobs do things like cluck like chickens instead of some kind of meaningful demonstration. Maybe there is some organized activism that uses flash mob-style assemblage, but if there is I haven't heard of it.
